The Start Corporation Bayou Region has announced they are still accepting donations for their Blessing Bags project from now until December 15, 2023. All items will be distributed to local kids in need before winter break begins– every little bit helps!

“Over the years, I’ve worked in the school system with at-risk youth and realized there is a lot of food insecurity in our community,” said Nicole Ditch, VP of Marketing with Start Corporation. “We wanted to do something to make their holidays a little bit brighter. People think that most kids are excited to be on holiday break, but the reality is, that means less meals for some of them. So being able to put together these little bags with food that kids can handle on their own (no can openers, adult supervision) helps us to know these kids will have something to eat over the break.”

The Start Corporation’s goal is to pack at least 100 bags with needed items. Items that are being requested for the Blessing Bags project are as follows:

  • Microwavable grits/oatmeal
  • Chip bags
  • Granola bars
  • Microwavable Mac n’ Cheese
  • Peanut butter packs
  • Mini cereal boxes
  • Bottled water
  • Pop Tarts
  • Pudding packs
  • Fruit cups
  • Chef Boyardee bowls
  • Goldfish/cheese crackers

Donations can be dropped off Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. at 420 Magnolia Street in Houma. For more information or questions, please email donations@startcorp.org.
