The Bayou Terrebonne Waterlife Museum is excited to announce the opening of the Bayouside Gallery, a rotating art exhibit in the local Waterlife Museum!

“We used to host art shows at the museum all the time, but our last one was about 11 years ago,” explained Lindsay Guidry, Museum Coordinator. “We wanted to bring it back to help promote local artists in our community.”

Guidry explained that ideally the Bayou Terrebonne Waterlife Museum will be able to host different artists for monthly exhibits, which will coincide with the museum’s other new recurring event, LouisianaLIT— a program which brings in a local author for a community book reading once a month. “We would love to have a local artist’s works hanging in the gallery when we host our authors and community members for LouisianaLIT,” said Guidry.

The first exhibit will feature works by local artist Roberta “Bobbie” Dickerson, native and resident of Lockport, LA, who works in studio from life and photographic references and plein air. “I use a full color palate of oils applied mainly with brushes,” reads an official statement from Dickerson. “My paintings are in both realistic and impressionistic styles. I started as a portrait artist taking commissions. I have segued into landscapes during the past several years. Light is a paramount in my paintings.”

Dickerson’s works are currently on display at the museum Tuesdays through Sundays, from 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Paid museum admission is required to view the gallery. Don’t miss the chance to view these beautiful paintings!

The Bayou Terrebonne Waterlife Museum also invites all art-lovers to come out for a closing reception on Thursday, December 7, 2023 at 6:00 p.m. Meet Bobbie and hear the story behind each of her paintings. Admission is $3, and light refreshments will be served.
