A Morgan City man is facing first-degree robbery charges after he allegedly held up a west Houma bank, authorities said.

Daniel J. Moore, 52, 1510 Chestnut Drive, was arrested Wednesday at 2:21 p.m., hours after he robbed the Whitney Bank on St. Charles Street.

Houma Police Public Information Officer Todd Duplantis said Moore walked into the bank, told the teller he was armed and left the bank with an undetermined amount of cash. The robbery occurred at approximately 9:46 a.m.

Moore left the bank on foot, Duplantis said. No one was injured during the incident.

The teller described him as being a white male, approximately 50 to 60 years of age, between 5 feet 2 inches and 5 feet and 8 inches tall, weighing approximately 160 to 185 pounds.

Officers canvassed the area with Moore’s photo, which was taken from the bank’s security camera. The search led officers to the Red Carpet Inn on Bayou Black Drive in west Houma.

“That’s just good detective work,” Duplantis said. “What better place to look for a suspect, who fled on foot, than a motel close by.”

Duplantis said most of the cash was recovered in the robbery and will be returned to the bank. No weapon was retrieved, he said.

Moore was also charged with the attempted robbery of the Cato Store in east Houma last Monday, Jan. 21.

Authorities said Moore is a registered sex offender in St. Mary Parish and was arrested in 2006 on drug charges.
