Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s deputies arrested two men Tuesday attempted to steal a vehicle at a store on Martin Luther King Boulevard. The car, it seems, may not be the duo’s only theft; they’re now linked to several vehicle burglaries at a Houma apartment complex, according to a TPSO spokesman.

Capt. Malcolm Wolfe said deputies responded to a disturbance call Tuesday morning at the Wal-Mart on Houma’s west side. There they found Kristopher Kleinsmith, 18, 209 Ballaire Dr., and Brandon Smith, 20, 273 Monarch Dr., Apt. D25, inside a vehicle that did not belong to either of the men, he said.

Both were arrested and charged with simple burglary of a vehicle, theft of goods and possession of alcohol by a person under age 21. They were booked into the Terrebonne Parish Jail, he said.

Detectives were called to Chateau Creole Apartments, 273 Monarch Dr., to investigate several vehicle burglaries, Wolfe said. Upon investigating the scene, he said detectives were able to link Kleinsmith and Smith to the crimes. They were rearrested for 11 counts of simple burglary and theft under $300.

Wolfe said the majority of items stolen out of the cars at the apartment complex were recovered.

The break-ins remain under investigation, he said. Anyone with information is asked to contact the TPSO’s detective bureau at (985) 876-2500.
