A robber armed with a piece of wood stole a bicyclist’s wallet Tuesday morning as he rode along Payne Street near East Street, Houma Police reported.


Department spokesman Lt. Todd Duplantis said the 49-year-old man told police that at 11:10 a.m., his attacker struck him with the wood and took his wallet, which contained an undetermined amount of cash. The victim was cut on the face and his right arm, however, he refused medical treatment, Duplantis said.

Officers patrolling the area found the suspect, Keyon Hite, 19, 408 East St., near the site of the robbery, he said. Keyon Hite, 19, 408 East St., the spokesman said.


Hite told police he had just been beaten by two black men in Daniel Turner Trailer Court, Duplantis said. Hite had a busted lip, and an anonymous caller reported that he had been robbed also, police said.

Police charged Hite with armed robbery and booked him into the Terrebonne Parish Jail.

Duplantis said the money has not been recovered, and the second robbery is still under investigation. If anyone has information, they are asked to call the HPD at (985) 873-6371.
