Lafourche Parish authorities were still waiting on autopsy results to determine what killed a 24-year-old man found dead along 402 North Elm St. in Lockport early Monday.

Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesman Larry Weidel said Monday afternoon the body had been identified through its offender database as Danny Foret, of the Raceland/Matthews area.

A Lockport man taking out his garbage discovered Foret’s body at 6:32 a.m. Monday next to a fallen bicycle, Weidel said. Detectives believe the bike belonged to Foret.

Sheriff deputies and officers with the Lockport Police Department were initially called to the scene.

Weidel said Foret’s body showed no signs of trauma. The Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office was scheduled to conduct an autopsy Monday to determine the exact cause of death.

“We are still waiting on the autopsy to determine the cause of death. But, we don’t suspect foul play,” Weidel said at press time.

Foret had no identification when his body was found, and he was initially listed as “John Doe,” Weidel said. “Investigators attempted to determine the identity of the man. They interviewed several people in the neighborhood, but no one knew him,” the spokesman explained.

Through a database of previous criminal offenders, detectives learned Foret’s identity.
