Houma Police arrested a local man Sunday morning after he cut a 20-year-old who ordered the suspect to leave his residence.

Department spokesman Lt. Todd Duplantis said officers arrested Mark J. Lirette Jr., 25, at a friend’s residence in Darcey Trailer Court after he cut the man in the neck with a knife.

According to Duplantis, the victim told officers Lirette was caught trying to steal a carton of cigarettes at the residence and was ordered to leave and never return. The victim said Lirette pulled a knife and attacked him, cutting him on the neck in the process.

Duplantis said Lirette appeared to be highly intoxicated at the time of his arrest. Lirette allegedly told officers that the victim and another man had attacked him. The knife used in the assault was recovered by police, Duplantis said.

Lirette was charged with aggravated battery and transported to the Terrebonne Parish Jail. If convicted of the charges, Duplantis said Lirette could face up to a $5,000 fine and 10 years in prison.
