Larose – On November 29, 2023, shortly before 2:00 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop C began investigating a serious injury crash involving a bicyclist on Louisiana Highway 1 near West 54th Street. The crash ultimately claimed the life of 66-year-old Henry Savoie of Larose.

The preliminary investigation revealed Savoie was attempting to cross LA Hwy 1 while on a bicycle. At the same time, a 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer was traveling north on LA Hwy 1. For reasons still under investigation, Savoie traveled into the path of the Chevrolet and was struck.

Savoie suffered serious injuries and was transported to an out-of-area hospital for treatment. The driver of the Chevrolet was not injured in the crash. Troop C was later notified Savoie succumbed to his injuries while at the hospital.

A toxicology sample was collected from Savoie and submitted for analysis. The driver of the Chevrolet showed no signs of impairment and voluntarily submitted a breath sample, which showed no alcohol detected. This crash remains under investigation.

Troop C has investigated 27 fatal crashes resulting in 30 fatalities in 2023.
