A Bourg man shot a co-worker in his groin in front of a house in east Houma before he fled the scene and later killed himself in a field alongside a Bourg highway last Wednesday morning, police said.

Michael Falgout, 33, 4343 Country Drive, Bourg, allegedly shot the victim with a handgun just before 9 a.m. Wednesday morning in front of residence located at 516 Engeron St.

The 34-year-old victim was transported to Terrebonne General Medical Center and is listed in stable condition, according to the Houma Police Department, which is continuing to investigate the shooting.

Both men were employed with A-Cajun Electric Company and had known each other for years, police said.

The reason for the altercation is not yet known, but an argument “about something to do with some family issues or some friendly issues” preceded the gunshots, HPD spokesman Sgt. Dana Coleman said.

After the shooting, Falgout fled the scene. About an hour later, police noticed his older-model red Ford F-150 driving along La. Highway 24 near Company Canal Road.

As a patrol car followed, Falgout pulled his truck into a field alongside the highway, exited the vehicle and shot himself, police said.
