Terrebonne Parish President Michel Claudet said his second term in office would continue offering town hall meetings as what became an expected practice during each year of his initial round in public office. The sixth series of town hall meetings will begin in January.

As with past town hall sessions, the 2012 meetings will be conducted in an open forum style, with a brief presentation followed by questions and public comment.

Claudet said the presentations are customized to local communities of Terrebonne Parish, but will address overall issues as they relate in a connecting manner.

Topics to be addressed include flood protection, drainage, hurricane protection, infrastructure, coastal restoration, economic development and quality of life.

“The town hall meeting format gives us a great opportunity to update our residents about progress being made in the Terrebonne Parish,” Claudet said. “These meetings also give us a chance to hear questions and ideas directly from residents as well as help them understand the workings of parish government.

“In almost every meeting, residents bring up an idea or concern that helps us move our parish forward,” Claudet added. “The positive results from our town hall meetings are numerous.  Whether roadways, drainage, or levees all concerns are looked into and necessary action is promptly taken.”

Dates and meeting places are specified with all sessions beginning at 6 p.m.

• Jan. 17, Montegut Recreation Center, Montegut

• Jan. 19, Devon Keller Memorial Center, Gibson/Black Bayou

• Jan. 26, Grand Caillou Recreation Center, Dulac

• Feb. 2, Dularge Recreation Center, Dularge

• Feb. 7, St. Bridget Church Annex Building, Schriever

• Feb. 9, Government Tower Council Meeting Room, Houma

• Feb. 16, American Legion Hall 380, Chauvin

“I encourage residents to attend these meetings for two reasons,” Claudet said. “First, it gives them the opportunity to learn about the tremendous amount of work being done in the parish. Second, it allows us to hear their ideas or concerns directly.”
