15-year-old charged with 2nd-degree murder

A 15-year-old girl was one of two suspects charged with second-degree murder in the slaying of 23-year-old Bayou Vista man last week.

Because the girl is a juvenile, her identity has not been released.

Kirtland Craft, 22, of 1409 Railroad Ave., Morgan City, was also charged with second-degree murder.

Priscilla Francis, 41, and Autumn Alfred, 24, both of 313 B Venus St., Bayou Vista, were each booked on charges of accessory to second-degree murder.

At about 11:30 p.m., Oct. 29, a sheriff’s deputy patrolling Bayou Vista found Willie Francis’ unattended-but-running vehicle on U.S. Highway 90. The sheriff’s office launched a search for Francis, spokeswoman Traci Landry said.

The next morning, the Berwick Police Department was informed that witnesses found Francis’ body along La. Highway 182. The St. Mary Parish Coroner’s Office confirmed the death and attributed it to multiple stab wounds, Landry said.

Through interviews, law enforcement has surmised that Craft and the juvenile female attacked Francis and stabbed him to death. The motive is still under investigation, Landry said.

16-year-old brings gun to school

A 16-year-old student was arrested at Houma Junior High last week after deputies found a .177-caliber pellet pistol tucked in the waistband of his pants, the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office announced last week.

Because the student is a juvenile, his identity has not been released.

The school’s deputy resource officer received a tip from a separate student that the juvenile was in possession of the pistol. After being informed, the deputy made contact with the student in question and escorted him into the hallway, according to spokesman Maj. Malcolm Wolfe.

The student denied possessing a weapon, though a search of his person revealed the gun, Wolfe said. He was booked at the Terrebonne Parish Juvenile Justice Center.

Man charged in connection with attempted murders

A 41-year-old Pointe-aux-Chenes man has been charged in connection with two attempted murders in Terrebonne Parish, the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office announced.

Adam Naquin, of 108 Dennis St., allegedly shot a male victim multiple times and bludgeoned a female victim in the head. The incident allegedly occurred at Naquin’s home. He was additionally booked with possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Lafourche Parish deputies discovered Naquin’s vehicle at a residence on East 43rd Street in Cut Off. After deputies and agents with the Lafourche Parish Drug Task Force formed a perimeter around the residence.

A female exited the home, and detectives learned Naquin was inside. He immediately surrendered, sheriff’s office spokesman Deputy Brennan Matherne said.

A small amount of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia were found inside his room at the residence, Matherne said.

Naquin’s bond for the attempted murder charges was set at $500,000. He is also being held at the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in lieu of a $5,500 bond.

Both victims were expected to recover.

Armed robbery suspect jailed

A 19-year-old Houma man has been implicated as one of at least four perpetrators of an armed robbery last week along Fielders Court in Houma.

Za’morion Donted Robertson, of Samuel Street, is allegedly one of “several black male suspects” who participated in the robbery of a male victim, whose wallet and cell phone were stolen at about 1 p.m., Nov. 7, Houma Police Chief Todd Duplantis said.

One of the suspects allegedly brandished a handgun. They fled on foot toward Howard Avenue, and Robertson was found along Authement Street.

Robertson was charged with armed robbery and booked at the Terrebonne Parish Jail.

The investigation is ongoing, Duplantis said.

Suspects tossed rocks at moving cars

At least four vehicles traveling in Thibodaux Saturday night were struck and damaged by rocks thrown from the railroad trestle bridge at Lafourche Crossing, and the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office has asked for the public’s help in finding the perpetrators.

One victim was taken to the hospital after a window shattered, spokesman Deputy Brennan Matherne said. Witnesses reported that individuals were tossing rocks from the bridge at cars passing on La. Highway 1.

Tipsters with information that leads to an arrest could be eligible for a $1,000 cash reward through Crime Stoppers. Anyone with information is asked to call (800) 743-7433 or visit www.crimestoppersbr.org.

“Tossing rocks onto vehicles traveling at over 50 miles per hour should be no one’s idea of fun,” Sheriff Craig Webre said in a printed statement. “This is a serious crime that not only damages property, but could also be fatal. All it takes is one driver to over-react and strike a guardrail or an oncoming car, and multiple lives could potentially be lost.”

Woman locks meth lab in car

A New Iberia woman locked herself out of her car, sought help from bystanders, who declined, and was arrested when Lafourche sheriff’s deputies came to her rescue.

That’s because she admitted to law enforcement that methamphetamine was being produced in a bottle that was inside her car, parked at a Galliano truck stop, according to Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesman Deputy Brennan Matherne.

Stacy Stevens, 44, of 7100 Leleux Road, was charged with creation/operation of a clandestine laboratory for the unlawful manufacture of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and operating a vehicle with a suspended license. She was booked at the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in lieu of a $23,500 bond.

Shortly before 8 p.m. on Nov. 2, Stevens asked multiple bystanders for assistance in opening her car. They referred her to the sheriff’s office.

After she informed deputies of the car’s contents, members of the Lafourche Parish Combined Meth Lab Response Team arrived to process the scene. Agents with the parish’s drug task force confirmed that the car contained a “mobile meth lab,” Matherne said.

Houma bank robber nabbed in Slidell

The suspected robber of Chase Bank was arrested in Slidell after he allegedly robbed another bank, Houma Police authorities said.

Walter Fairly, 35, of Collins, Miss., has been charged with first-degree robbery in relation to the east Houma crime, Houma Police Chief Todd Duplantis said. He is being held in the St. Tammany Parish jail.

Fairly is accused of driving a black, full-size, single-cab truck to Chase Bank and demanding money from a teller on Oct. 31. He fled the scene and remained at large for five days.

On Nov. 4, Fairly allegedly robbed a Regions Bank in Slidell. He was arrested shortly afterward, Duplantis learned through the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s New Orleans Office.

Fairly’s description matches that of the suspect who robbed the east Houma bank. A similar vehicle to the one the Houma suspect allegedly fled in was seized after the Slidell robbery, Duplantis said.

A 29-year-old Houma man was arrested after he allegedly fired a weapon at Club Heavy on Houma’s Howard Avenue.

Kentreal Howard, of Carlos Street, was charged with two counts of aggravated second-degree battery and one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, Houma Police Chief Todd Duplantis said.

Howard allegedly retrieved a firearm after an altercation. One victim was shot in the hand, and a second was shot in the head. Both were treated for their injuries and released.

Suspects sought in washateria armed robbery

Two employees of Ledet Washateria said they were robbed while emptying coin reservoirs at the east Houma business.

Houma Police Chief Todd Duplantis said four black males wearing dark clothing and masks brandished a weapon while committing the robbery. He estimated their age range between 19 and 24.

The robbery allegedly occurred just before midnight on Nov. 6 at the washateria, 2000 East Tunnel Blvd.

The suspects were able to flee with an undetermined amount of money.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Houma Police Department at (985) 873-6371 or Bayou Region Crime Stoppers at (800) 743-7433 or www.crimestoppersbr.org. Tipsters can remain anonymous and could be eligible for a cash reward.

Vehicle burglary lands 19-year-old in police custody

Damon Daymon R. Brown’s trip to Walmart didn’t go as he planned this week.

According to Houma Police authorities, the suspect was found in the store by authorities while in possession of goods reported stolen in a vehicle burglary the day before.

On Nov. 4, HPD was called to a vehicle burglary on the 100 block of Tulane Street. Once on the scene, authorities learned that a silver Dodge pickup truck was burglarized and a purse was taken containing several valuables and an undetermined amount of cash.

As the investigation continued, Brown, 19, of 101 Tulane St., was identified as the suspect in the burglary.

A day later at 4 p.m., authorities located him at Walmart and took him into custody.

Once he was located, police said they found the suspect in possession of the stolen goods, as well as a plastic container containing suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

He is charged with simple burglary, possession of a controlled dangerous substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
