Traffic stop leads to drug, resisting charges

Things got physical when Houma Police stopped Anderson Pedro Wallace, 25, early Thursday.

Officer Thomas Rhodes spotted Wallace’s Buick Roadmaster run a red light at the intersection of East and Senator streets around 1:05 a.m.

Rhodes pulled the green Buick over on a private drive off of Main Street. Soon after the stop, Wallace became belligerent and attempted to run away, police said. Rhodes had to physically wrestle Wallace to the ground to subdue and arrest him.

Rhodes found a clear plastic bag containing two suspected Xanax pills and a large plastic bag containing several pieces of suspected crack cocaine, authorities said. Rhodes seized the narcotics for evidence.

Inside the vehicle, police found a marijuana cigarette, which was also seized.

Wallace was charged with disobeying a red light; drivers must be licensed; resisting an officer by violence; battery of a police officer; possession of marijuana; possession with the intent to distribute crack cocaine; and possession of Xanax.

Police said the suspected crack cocaine weighed approximately 4 grams total weight, which has a street value of $800.

Houma woman behind bars after stabbing boyfriend

After arguing over her 27-year-old boyfriend’s friends, Lawanda Munson, 25, of 1139 Roussell St., ended the fight by stabbing the man Thursday evening.

Houma Police were called to the residence around 6:09 p.m., authorities said. The boyfriend left prior to the police arriving. He sought treatment at Terrebonne General Medical Center.

Officers said Munson had bruises on her neck and jaw, police said. She was taken to Leonard Chabert Medical Center for treatment.

Munson was charged with aggravated battery.

Authorities said the boyfriend received a small, minor laceration just below his ribs.

The incident is still under investigation; details of the stabbing are still unclear, authorities said.

Peeping leads to Houma man’s arrest

Herman Williams, 49, of 619 1/2 Dupont St., Houma, is facing time for looking.

Houma Police arrested Williams around 10:16 p.m. last Wednesday after a woman in the 400 block of Commerce Street notified police that she had seen a man outside her residence near the windows.

Officers patrolling the area found Williams lying face down in a ditch near the woman’s home, authorities said.

Williams was arrested for criminal trespassing and curfew in the parks violation.

Police soon learned Williams was a suspect in several complaints of the same nature over the past few days. Authorities said he had allegedly been looking through bedroom windows of residences in the area.

He was ultimately charged with two counts of criminal trespassing, curfew in parks and playgrounds and peeping tom.

Houma Police bust burglar gang

Four Houma men responsible for a rash of recent vehicle burglaries were arrested last Wednesday, Houma Police said.

Jason Fontenot, 19, of 416 Greenway St.; Corey Sonier, 20, of 108 Manchester Drive, Houma; Jodan Cunningham, 18, of 325 Lake Crescent Circle, Houma; and Steven Kinsella, 19, of 209 Harding Drive, Houma, were arrested on simple burglary charges.

The case broke when detectives caught Fontenot using an access card stolen from a car on Tigerlilly Drive in Houma, authorities said.

The following day, detectives arrested Sonier, Cunningham and Kinsella after learning they were responsible for burglaries that occurred outside the city limits during the same time. The Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office was contacted and also levied charges against the four.

The burglaries occurred during the week of June 5-7 in the West Houma area, police said. Detectives recovered several items, including laptop computers, cameras, cell phones and two handguns.

The investigation is continuing and police said more arrests are expected.

Fontenot was charged with unauthorized use of an access card and simple burglary. Eleven counts of simple burglary were later added.

Sonnier, Cunningham and Kinsella are facing 12 counts of simple burglary.

Gunfire leads to Lafourche duo’s arrest

Thibodaux Police arrested two local men last Monday night after they fired seven or eight shots at a 20-year-old Thibodaux man as he walked across Plantation Road.

Police were in the area of Louis Streams Circle around 9:15 p.m. Monday and heard the gunshots. They responded to Eagle Drive and Plantation Road, however, the people in the area denied having heard anything.

With no witnesses, victims or evidence recovered, police went back to patrolling the area.

Authorities found their victim about 30 minutes later when the 20-year-old arrived at the police department saying he wanted to file a report.

The man told police that as he walked across Plantation Road near South Barbier Drive in Thibodaux, he saw two black men standing in the middle of Plantation Road armed with a small caliber handgun. He said they pointed at him and began to shoot, according to authorities. The man told police that he was not hit, and ran and hid in a nearby area.

Dmarcus “Cody” Coleman, 21, of 607A Government Circle, Thibodaux, fired the gun, police said. Donald Jones, 17, of 118 Notre Dame St., Thibodaux, acted as his accomplice. Warrants for the two were obtained.

Coleman was arrested and charged with one count of aggravated assault with a firearm, and one count of possession of a firearm by a person convicted of felonies. The second charge stemmed from an incident in 2004, when Coleman was 17. He was convicted of an armed robbery against a taxi driver.

Bond for the two charges is $55,000.

Coleman was also issued a barment notice barring him from entering onto property owned by the Thibodaux Housing Division, police said.

Jones was charged with one count of principal to aggravated assault with a firearm. Bond was set at $10,000.

Authorities are asking anyone with information to contact the Thibodaux Police at (985) 446-5021. Information can be shared anonymously.

Two Houma teens arrested in armed robbery

During patrols last Wednesday night, Houma Police spotted five men walking away from a vehicle parked on Morrison Avenue in West Houma. When the men spotted police, they took off running.

A woman, who police said was visibly shaken, and three men inside the parked car told officers four of the men – all of whom were dressed in black – approached the car armed with handguns and robbed them. The people in the parked car had been waiting for a friend.

The victims told police that the thieves took various items.

Police later arrested Jormichael K. James, 17, of 137 Prince Collins St., and Deja D. Johnson, 17, of 1405 Keith St., both in Houma. James was charged with armed robbery, while Johnson faces armed robbery and use of a firearm charges.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities said more arrests are possible.

Friendship isn’t all it’s cracked up to be

On patrol last Wednesday night, Houma Police spotted a couple on Payne Street acting suspicious. As the officers approached, Lisa Albert, 46, of 102 Leona St., Houma, tossed a white napkin to the ground by the sidewalk. As the napkin sailed by, police spotted a white rock-like substance, believed to be crack cocaine, fall from inside.

When police picked up the napkin, Albert grabbed it from the officer and said it was just a rag.

Authorities said she began shaking it, saying “See!”

It wasn’t Albert’s day, however. A second crack cocaine rock fell from inside the napkin, police said.

Police seized both the crack cocaine and napkin, and arrested Albert. When her sidekick, Dale Guidry, 53, of 121 Evelyn Avenue, began arguing with Albert as to whose crack cocaine it was, both were arrested and charged with possession of crack cocaine.

More friendship problems…

Mario Oquendo, 50, of 903 Peach St., is facing multiple charges after his roommate called police Friday evening.

Oquendo was reportedly breaking items in the residence.

When police arrived, Oquendo was standing in the doorway yelling and screaming, authorities said. Without any provocation, he grabbed a metal broom, held it over his shoulder and yelled at police in an aggressive manner, “Bring it on!”

Officers attempted to calm Oquendo down, however the Houma man would not. He picked up a rocking chair and threw it at the officers. One of the officers blocked with chair, which was headed straight for his head, with his right hand. The officer’s hand was injured in the struggle and will require surgery.

Oquendo entered the residence and slammed the door shut, trapping a 52-year-old woman inside. Police could hear the woman yelling for help. That’s when officers kicked the door open and got between Oquendo and the woman. She ran outside to safety.

Oquendo began picking up chairs in the residence and hitting the walls, police said. Officers used a Taser to stop Oquendo, and after a brief struggle were able to subdue him.

Oquendo was for simple battery, battery on a police officer, and two counts of resisting an officer by violence.
