Criminal patrol leads to drug arrest

A man walking between houses in the 200 block of Prince Collins Street caught the attention of officers conducting a criminal patrol in the area early Friday morning.

Houma Police Officer Thomas Rhodes stopped Reginald Johnson, 46, of 205 Prince Collins St., who became very belligerent toward the officer and quickly put his left hand into his pants pocket, said Lt. Todd Duplantis, police department spokesman.

When Rhodes asked Johnson what was in his pocket, Johnson admitted it was a crack pipe. The office seized the pipe for evidence, Duplantis said.

As Rhodes attempted to arrest Johnson for unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, the Houma man began to resist. Rhodes had to wrestle Johnson to the ground to handcuff him.

Inside Johnson’s jacket, the officer found an open cigarette pack that contained suspected powder cocaine, the spokesman said. Also, in Johnson’s right inner shoe and sock, Rhodes found anther clear plastic bag containing suspected crack cocaine.

The narcotics were also seized for evidence, Duplantis said. The powder cocaine weighed approximately 3.8 grams and the suspected crack cocaine weighed about 3 grams, the spokesman said.

Johnson was booked at the Terrebonne Parish Jail with unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of crack and powder cocaine and resisting an office by violence.

Mississippi DV suspect arrested in Lafourche Parish

An armed man wanted by Mississippi authorities for stalking and defaming his ex-wife was arrested in South Lafourche Parish last Wednesday night.

Phillip Kennedy, 50, of 101 CR Conerly Road, Kokomo, Miss., was charged on an outstanding fugitive warrant from Mississippi for three counts of violating a protective order; stalking; defamation; inciting a felony; possession with intent to distribute marijuana; and possession with intent to distribute Schedule III narcotics.

Sgt. Walter Tenney, a trained domestic violence specialist, made the arrest in Cut Off after deputies were alerted by the ex-wife that Kennedy would be in the area to sign some tax papers, said Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesman Larry Weidel.

Kennedy had active warrants for his arrest for crimes against the woman, the spokesman said.

Weidel said the Mississippi man was known to carry a weapon and, in fact, had a Ruger 9mm semi-automatic pistol in his vehicle, along with individually wrapped bags of suspected marijuana and pills believed to be Hydrocodone. He also had printed papers indicating his ex-wife was a child molester, Weidel said.

Kennedy’s daughter and ex-wife participated in an on-going investigation into the crimes against the ex-wife, Weidel explained. Kennedy allegedly told his daughter to “plant” the drugs in his ex-wife’s truck so she would get arrested.

Weidel said the investigation also revealed that Kennedy had printed flyers that he posted throughout south Lafourche defaming his ex-wife’s character without validation.

Kennedy was taken into custody without incident. He was booked at the South Lafourche Sub-station and then transferred to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux. His bond in Mississippi was $200,000, but has been increased to $300,000 by state District Judge Walter Lanier Jr.

Weidel said the maximum penalty for the charges is 30 years in prison with fines totaling over $50,000.
