Here is an update from the National Weather Service in New Orleans concerning the critical fire conditions Monday.

A Red Flag Warning is in effect for areas N of the I-10 Monday, August 21st from 7AM through midnight. A Fire Danger Statement (SPS) is in effect for areas S of the I-10 corridor Monday.

WHAT: CRITICAL Fire Weather conditions N of I-10 with sustained winds 10-20mph with gusts of 20+mph likely and Keetch-Byram Index Values of 700+ along with ample dry fuels available.

ELEVATED Fire Weather conditions S of I-10 with sustained winds 15-20mph with gusts 20-25+mph likely and Keetch-Bryam Index Values of 700+ along with ample dry fuels available. Isolated rain chances are possible Monday, which may improve fire conditions compared to northern areas.

WHEN: Monday, August 21, 2023 from 7AM through Midnight


WHERE: All of SE LA and Coastal and S MS

Impacts:
Fires can start easily and spread rapidly.
A Burn Ban is in effect area-wide.
Don’t park on dry grass or throw cigarettes out of vehicles.
Strong winds could make fires spread more quickly.
