Dennis Guillot is announcing his candidacy for re-election to the Lafourche Parish School Board in the November 8, 2022 election. Due to the district realignment and school board reduction, he is seeking election to the newly created District 2.
During his time on the School Board, Guillot has proudly served District 6 and has served as Board Vice President, Board Parliamentarian, Chairperson of the Policy Committee, and Member of the Advisory Committee, the Insurance Committee, the Policy Committee, and the Academics Committee.
Guillot is a native of Raceland and has been an Associate Professor at Nicholls State University the past 24 years. He is married to Lakelie Hoffpauir Guillot and is the father of three children; Jonathan graduated from Ovey Comeaux High School in Lafayette and Nicholls State University; Christopher graduated from Christian Home School in Youngsville and University of Louisiana – Lafayette; Skyler graduated from Thibodaux High School, Tulane University, and current is a graduate student at University of North Texas. Guillot is the third son of Denny and Dorothy Guillot of Raceland.
Guillot is a 1986 graduate of Central Lafourche High School. He earned an Associate of Science degree from Nicholls State University and a Bachelor of General Studies from University of Southwestern Louisiana (now ULL). Guillot earned a Doctorate of Philosophy and Master of Science degrees from Louisiana State University. In 1991, Guillot began his professional career as a Registered Respiratory Therapist and is currently works part time at Thibodaux Regional Medical Center.
Guillot’s career in education started at Nicholls State University in1997 the Department of Allied Health Sciences as an adjunct instructor and then in 1999 as an Assistant Professor and Director of Clinical Education in the Cardiopulmonary Science. After serving 8 years, Guillot moved to the College of Education in Teacher Education serving as Associate Professor in Human Performance Education and program coordinator for Human Performance Education program. Guillot serves the Nicholls Community on the Budget Committee, Faculty Compensation/Morale Committee, and College of Education Curriculum Committee and Graduate Studies Coordinator for the College of Education.
Guillot has also volunteered his time as an assistant coach with volleyball, women’s soccer, and track and field at Thibodaux High and volleyball and track and field at Sixth Ward Middle. Guillot has been a high school volleyball official for 30 plus years.
Guillot is a member of the American Association Respiratory Care (AARC) where he has served as a member on many national committees. In 2019, Guillot was awarded designation as a Fellow.
