The Terrebonne Parish Council District 9 race offers two candidates, each delivering much of the same content in regards to concerns for coastal restoration and storm protection. Where they differ may come down to the manner in which they approach the work at hand.

Incumbent Democrat Pete Lambert will complete his second term in office this year and seeks a third round on the parish council. He said his concerns for District 8 have “never changed” and focus on hurricane protection, drainage and traffic. His goal is to complete projects that are already underway.

“We’ve about done everything we can do with the forced drainage levees,” Lambert said. “If we can get some critical sections of Morganza to the Gulf built that would greatly increase our ability to withstand storms.”

Lambert pointed to construction of the Bayouside Bridge and preparations for improvements on the St. Ann Bridge as signs of advancement. “The first phase of Countryside Drive is progressing and the Prospect Bridge is to be complete in May or June.”

Challenger, Republican Donald Montgomery was critical of Lambert’s low-key manner and indicated that as being a primary reason behind his running for office. “I’m running because we need a more positive voice on the council for our district,” he said. “We need someone who will bring up the issues and bring feedback from the people to have a voice on the council.

Montgomery stressed that his experience in management qualifies him for the position. “I’ve dealt with budgets and managed personnel,” he said. “I believe I can be a better steward of our taxpayer dollars and be the voice of south Terrebonne.”

Lambert stood by his record and his approach to the job. “I work hard,” he said. “I don’t make promises and I don’t take credit. That’s what I do.”
