Early voting in Terrebonne, Lafourche and St. Mary parishes will take place Saturday, Oct. 6, and Monday, Oct. 8, to Saturday, Oct. 13, at each Registrar of Voters Offices and the St. Mary branch site during regular office hours, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., including the two Saturdays.

The Terrebonne Parish Registrar of Voters is located in the courthouse annex (7856 Main St. in Houma). The Lafourche Parish Registrar of Voters is located at 307 W. 4th St. in Thibodaux. And the St. Mary Parish Registrar of Voters is on the third floor of the courthouse (500 Main St. in Franklin). The branch office is located at 301 3rd St. in Morgan City.

Absentee ballots by mail must be received by Friday, Oct. 19.

Request for absentee ballots by mail can be downloaded from the Louisiana Secretary of State Web site (www.sos.louisiana.gov), or can be obtained in person at any of the registrar offices.

Lafourche Parish voters can obtain a form requesting an absentee ballot either online at www.lafourcheregistrarofvoters.org or at the registrar office.

The request form has to be returned to the office in person, by mail, or fax. An absentee ballot will then be mailed to the voter.

Absentee ballots by mail, other than military personnel and persons staying overseas, must be postmarked by Tuesday, Oct. 16 to vote in the Oct. 20 elections. The ballots must be received at the Lafourche Parish Registrar of Voters by Friday, Oct. 19.

Voters check off one of 13 reasons for having to use the ballot.

All first-time absentee voters by mail need to have voted in person in a prior election to be eligible to vote absentee.

“We don’t get a lot of military and overseas ballots,” said Deputy Registrar Jackie Gravois. “Most of the absentee ballots we receive are from oilfield workers, and out-of-state teachers.”

Completed absentee ballots have to be mailed to the St. Mary Parish Registrar of Voters Office in Franklin. However, absentee ballots can be dropped off in person at the Terrebonne Parish Registrar, or mailed.

For Election Day and early voting, affidavits can be filled out in place of photograph identification for voters lacking photo ID’s.
