Free prescription drug discount cards will be available at some government offices and public-service organizations in Terrebonne Parish beginning Monday, Nov. 17.

The card, sponsored by the National Association of Counties and distributed through the pharmaceutical firm Caremark, will be available at the parish Govern-ment Tower building (8026 Main St.), the Terrebonne Council on Aging (995 West Tunnel Blvd.), Catholic Social Services (1220 Aycock St.), and the parish’s Health and Human Services Department (809 Barrow St.) in Houma.

The card has an average savings of 20 percent on commonly-prescribed medication for people without medical insurance and for prescription drugs not covered by a plan.

Terrebonne Parish did not pay any fee to NACo to participate in the program. The card can be used at several pharmacies in the parish or at more than 50,000 pharmacies nationally.

Pharmacies use the discount program as a promotional program, according to Caremark’s Web site.

Cardholders only have to present the card at a participating pharmacy to receive the discount.

Terrebonne Parish signed a two-year, four-month contract to distribute the card.

The Parish Council’s Policy, Procedure and Legal Committee approved making the card available to residents at its April 7 meeting.
