Terrebonne Parish public schools will remain open Tuesday unless there is a change in the projected path of Tropical Storm Gordon, authorities announced on the school district’s website.

Lafourche Parish publc schools will be closed, although there were no plans for classes due to a day of educator meetings. Schools within the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux are closed to students, as well, as part of an Educators’ Conference.

Forecasters are saying the storm’s path has moved slightly to the east. Terrebonne and Lafourche remain under a tropical storm warning while points east including Orleans Parish are under a hurricane watch.

Terrebonne Parish President Gordon Dove has declared a state of emergency, as has Gov. John Bel Edwards for the state.

Edwards said residents should not be complacent as changes in the projected path are possible at any time. He has activated 200 Louisiana National Guard members for service in south Louisiana with vehicles for rescues if needed.
