March 13, 2008Voters in Grand Isle filled three council seats Saturday while voters in St. Mary Parish Fire District No. 7 resoundingly passed a tax and a bond issue.
In Grand Isle, Clifford “Dixie” Santiny defeated Roger Camardelle for Seat C. Stephen Resweber beat Aubrey Chaisson for Seat D and Leoda Bladsacker topped Carroll Allemand for the Seat E position.
In St. Mary, the $750,000 bond issue will purchase firefighting equipment, including a ladder truck. The 10-year, five-mill property tax will pay for maintenance. Both propositions passed by 70 to 30 percent margins.
