Grand Isle voters head to the voting booth Saturday to elect a mayor, police chief and three town council members.

Topping the ballot on Louisiana’s only inhabited barrier island is the race for mayor. Incumbent David Camardelle is seeking another four-year term and is opposed by Frank “Paco” Besson. Both men are registered as Democrats.

Voters will also elect a police chief for a four-year term. Incumbent Euris Dubois is seeking a second term against Norris Esponge Jr. and Frances Laurendine. All three are registered Democrats.

Only three of the five seats on the Grand Isle Town Council will be contested Saturday as two members – Seat “A” member Ray Santiny and Seat “B” member Jay Lafont – returned to office unopposed.

Longtime Seat “C” member Roger Camardelle is seeking another tem. He is opposed by Paul Frazier and Clifford “Dixie” Santiny. Camardelle listed as a Democrat, while Frazier lists no political party affiliation. Santiny is a Republican.

The contest for Seat “D” on the council pits Ray “Ray Ray” Arabie, Aubrey “T-Black” Chaisson and Stephen “Scooter” Resweber against each other. Arabie lists no political party affiliation, while Chaisson and Resweber are Democrats.

Seat “E” incumbent Carroll Allemand is seeking re-election to the seat. Also running for the post are Leoda Bladsacker and Christopher “Godfather” Santiny. Allemand and Bladsacker are Democrats, while Santiny has filed as a Republican.

Polls open on Saturday at 6 a.m. and close at 8 p.m.
