On March 6, 2022 at 11:03 am, Thibodaux Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a house on fire in the 300 block of Crossing North Subdivision off of LA 1.

On arrival, firefighters encountered smoke showing from the eaves and back of the residence. The fire was discovered on the back patio and extinguished. Fortunately the fire was extinguished before flames spread to the attic. The cause of the fire was a pan of grease being used on the patio. No injuries were reported.

In a separate social media post, local celebrity chef The Cajun Ninja Jason Derouen confirmed this was his home and that he and his family were not home at the time of the fire.

“Just wanna send some love to Thibodaux Volunteer Fire Department today. If not for their willingness to be ready 24/7, I may not have a house. Unfortunately a grease fire broke out on my patio. Everyone seems to be ok, just a bit shaken up. Thankfully much of the fire was contained to just the patio. We will be back from Texas later tonight to assess the damage. Thanks again TFD.”
