Statistically, 90 percent of all child seats are not properly installed.

It’s a trend technicians with the South Central Safe Community Partnership (SCSCP) hope to eradicate.

The Houma-based safety coalition recently hosted a child seat checkup at East Houma’s Wal-Mart in conjunction with National Passenger Safety Week.

Technicians from various emergency response organizations, Houma Police, Leonard Chabert Medical Center, Alcohol and Drug Abuse Council for South Louisiana, St. James Parish and Terrebonne Parish sheriff’s offices and Louisiana State Police Troop C, joined the effort.

Child seats may be checked by appointed at the Troop C facility, ADAC, the Office of Public Health or Leady of the Sea General Hospital.

SCSCP will next meet Nov. 17. For more information, call (985) 851-2900.
