Houma Police arrested a local man Friday afternoon for allegedly raping his 28-year-old former girlfriend, according to a department spokesman.

Lt. Todd Duplantis said officers were dispatched to the 400 block of Ashlawn Street in response to a rape call. The woman told police she was in the area of Allen and Gibb Street around 2 a.m. when her ex-boyfriend forced her into a car and drove her to his home, the spokesman said.

Once there, the woman said Clarence T. Henry, 31, 410 Ashlawn St., raped her, Duplantis said.

Officers were unable to find Henry during the initial investigation, he said. However, on Tuesday morning, detectives patrolling the area spotted Henry walking on Van Avenue in East Houma, Duplantis said. He ran from the officers, but was caught in the 200 block of Peter Street following a brief foot chase.

Henry was charged with aggravated rape and aggravated kidnapping. The penalty for those convicted of rape in Louisiana is life imprisonment at hard labor without the benefit of parole, probation or suspension of sentence, Duplantis said.
