A two-vehicle smash up sent a Houma teen to Terrebonne General Medical Center with life threatening injuries last Sunday.

At around 12:45, Scott Bourgeois, 18, was stopped in his 1999 Nissan Sentra at the intersection of Valhi Lagoon Crossing and LA Highway 311.

Bourgeois failed to yield from the stop sign and attempted a left turn onto LA 311 north.

During the turn, Richelle Dehart, 33, of Houma, slammed into Bourgeois’s driver side door with her 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe.

Bourgeois was the only occupant of his vehicle and was wearing a seatbelt. He was transferred to Terrebonne General by Acadian Ambulance with life threatening injuries.

Dehart and her passenger, Madison Dehart, were not injured in the accident and were both wearing seatbelts.

Investigators do not suspect alcohol to be a factor in the crash, but blood was taken from Bourgeois and sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.

No charges have been filed at this time.

Troopers are continuing the investigation.
