The Houma-Terrebonne Housing Authority’s regular January meeting has been rescheduled to next Tuesday at Bayou Townes Auditorium beginning at 1:30 p.m.

The meeting had previously been scheduled for Thursday.

In addition to regular monthly reports, commissioners will discuss the HTHA’s procurement of wind and hail insurance coverage for its Bayou Towers site.

After a one-year lapse in wind-and-hail insurance on the 11-story complex, the housing authority is seeking coverage before the start of the 2007 hurricane season June 1. At its December meeting, commissioners asked HTHA Executive Director Wayne Thibodaux to work with Robert Page, of Charles Page & Son Insurance Agency in Houma, to find an insurer.

Following hurricanes Katrina and Rita, the cost of hail-and-wind insurance for home- and business owners south of Interstate 10 has risen dramatically. The HTHA insures Senator Circle through the Louisiana Citizens Property Insurance Corp., the state’s last-resort insurer for residential and commercial properties.

However, Citizens only insures up to $2 million, far less than the $12 million value of Bayou Towers. Commissioners directed Thibodaux to seek other insurance options at its December meeting.

Other agenda items include:

• Discussion and possible action relative to the Bayou Towers Beauty Shop and a needed agreement between the housing authority and the owner/operator.

• Discussion and possible action relative to MOU between the housing authority and the Terrebonne Parish Council Government relative to the Head Start Initiative in Senator Circle.

• Jenilyn Swett, of the Youth Works, Inc., will discuss its 2007 Summer Camp initiative in the Senator Circle community.

A copy of the full agenda is viewable at the Senator Circle office and at Bayou Towers.

Those who would like to address the board must complete a Board Appearance Request form, which is available at the administrative office during regular business hours.

People with disabilities who would like to attend the meeting but need special accommodations can contact Cheryl Belanger, 504 coordinator, at least three days in advance of the public hearing so that arrangements can be made.
