Kenner man charged in July Canal St. shooting

Houma Police arrested a Kenner man Sunday night in connection with a July 3 shooting on the 800 block of Canal Street.


Mark Anthony Griffin, 33, is accused of unloading dozens of bullets from an assault rifle in the home of Robert Mitchell Jr. Mitchell was hit once in the right shoulder. He was treated at Terrebonne General Medical Center.


Police filed a warrants on Griffin on July 8 for attempted first-degree murder and aggravated criminal damage to property, but eluded arrest until this week.

Police received a tip Sunday that Griffen was at a house on Scott Lane in West Houma. When Griffin left the area in a vehicle, officers tried to pull him over. Griffin jumped from the moving vehicle in a ditch near St. Louis Street and Morrison Avenue.

After a brief chase, Griffin was apprehended and transported to the Terrebone Parish Jail.

Police believe the shooting stemmed from a feud between the two families.
