The Parish Council passed two resolutions requesting District Attorney Cam Morvant to render opinions on separate matters related to the BP oil spill.

The first resolution requested an opinion on whether the council could use a portion of the $1 million BP gave to the parish after the oil spill to cover the costs of transporting and analyzing blood drawn at a local doctor’s office.

Last week, Mike Robichaux, a Raceland doctor, drew blood from several people claiming to be sick from the toxins in the crude oil and the dispersants used to clean it. Robichaux said he will not charge patients to have their blood drawn, but it costs about $250 to transport the blood and have it analyzed at a lab in Duluth, Ga.

The second resolution asked the DA to render an opinion on the timeframe for lawsuits and claims against BP.

Both resolutions passed 7-0-2, with councilmen Jerry Jones and Phillip Gouaux abstaining because of ties to the oil industry.
