The Lafourche Parish District Attorney’s Office will seek the death penalty against four men accused of raping and killing a Cut Off woman earlier this year.

Esdras Garcia, 21, Luis Nava, 28, Jose Moreno, 24, and 20-year-old Gonzalo Cortes are accused of repeatedly raping and then killing 33-year-old Angela Laudun after meeting her at a bar on May 8.

Hours later, authorities found the woman’s body in a wooded area off La. Highway 3235 in Golden Meadow. An autopsy showed she died from suffocation.

On July 6, Garcia, Nava, Moreno and Cortes entered not guilty pleas to charges of first-degree murder and aggravated rape.

No trial date has been set.

The four men were working for a Houma company and were living on property owned by Quality Shipyard in trailers owned by Superior Labor Services. But they allegedly drove Laundun to a house in Galliano where they had been doing repairs.

Mark Goldman with the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office said the cause of death was “affixia due to suffocation.”

The sheriff’s office received help from other agencies around the area to tie the Hispanic men to the crimes.
