Holiday season can be a tough time financially for many low-income families.

So with the season of giving just around the corner, Lafourche Parish Community Action would like to remind those residents that there are services available assist parish residents who meet certain income guidelines.

One of the programs certain residents may take advantage of is Emergency Assistance, a service which provides one month’s rent/mortgage payment per year. The service also pays one utility bill as well as general help with certain household expenses.

Residents at 125 percent of poverty level or below are eligible for aid. Those guidelines are as follows:

• Household of 1 person – $1,216 per month, $14,588 per year

• Household of 2 people – $1,639 per month, $19,663 per year

• Household of 3 people – $2,061 per month, $24,738 per year

• Household of 4 people – $2,484 per month, $29,813 per year

• Household of 5 people – $2,907 per month, $34,888 per year

• Household of 6 people – $3,330 per month, $39,963 per year

• Household of 7 people – $3,753 per month, $45,038 per year

• Household of 8 people – $4,176 per month, $50,113 per year

• For each additional household member above eight, add $375 monthly and $4,500 annually

Residents may visit outreach offices in Thibodaux (2535 Veterans Blvd.), Mathews (4876 La. Highway 1) and Cut Off (1621 E. Main St., Suite 13B) to apply for aid.

Residents should bring proof of income for everyone in the household, ID/license for head of household, Social Security card and birth dates for everyone in the households, current food stamp printout (no more than 30 days old), current SSI or SSA Awards Letter, current unemployment benefit letter, separation/discharge letter from last employer, landlord letter and W-9 completed by landlord and all household monthly bills/receipts (rent/mortgage, utilities, etc.).
