March 14, 2007The following is a rundown of action taken by the Lafourche Parish School Board at its regularly schedule meeting on March 7. All board members were in attendance. All decisions were unanimous.
• Designated March as Music in Our Schools Month.
• Designated April 15-21 as National Library Week.
• Designated April 16-22 as Young Peoples’ Poetry Week.
• Approved Parke Energy LLC’s request to advertise for lease sale on Section 16, Township 21 South, Range 22 East, containing 523 acres.
• Renewed the land manager’s contract for 2007 at last year’s rate.
• Agreed to change the original contract completion date to May 15 for the technology infrastructure at Raceland Upper Elementary School.
• Approved adding 10 days to the original contract completion date for the Raceland Upper Elementary School exterior recoating and window change-out.
• Approved the replacement of the Golden Meadow Middle School sidewalk canopy and gazebo to be funded through the Phase 2 construction program.
• Accepted the proposal for the installation of A/C control at Central Lafourche High School by Siemens Building Technologies.
• Approved the roof replacement and waterproofing projects on four schools (Larose Upper Elementary, Larose Cut-OFF Middle, Lockport Upper Elementary and Lockport Middle).
• Approved waterproofing and window replacements at Golden Meadow Middle and Lockport Middle schools.
• Accepted the estimate of $14,900 from Crochet Paving for limestone for the driveway at the TOP North Campus.
• Approved the purchase of a new two-color offset printing press and directed the business manager to look for alternate financing sources.
• Approved funding for the athletic equipment requested from Bayou Blue Middle School in the amount $22,496.
• Approved assisting St. Charles Elementary School with the purchase of playground equipment to meet national standards for all students in the amount of $30,000. (Final plan approval and amount to be presented to the board in July).
• Approved the request to set the meal rate for all employees, guests and visitors breakfast and lunch meals at the at-cost meal price beginning with the 2007-2008 school year.
• Awarded seal bid to Benoit Locksmith of Thibodaux for the purchase of door locks and hardware.
• Reappointed April Foret to serve on the Board of Commissioners for Special Education District 1 for a full six-year term.
• Appointed Beth Cheramie to serve on the Board of Commissioners for Special Education District 1 for a full six-year term.
• Authorized advertisements for bids for the purchase of floor wax and floor stripper for the 2007-2008 school year.
• Approved memorial resolution Thibodaux High School student Jack William Euston; South Lafourche High School teacher Michael St. Pierre; and retired teachers Hazel Smith and Minola Toups.
