Property taxes are due for the year and the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office has begun mailing tax notices to homeowners in the parish.

The LPSO is sending 51,256 homeowners their tax notices through the mail, but 13,128 of them require no payment because those homeowners are homestead exempt.

The property taxes owed to the parish total $127.4 million.

Property taxes are due by December 31. Unpaid taxes become delinquent on January 1, 2016 and accrue interest at a rate of 1% per month until they’re paid.

Those who haven’t paid their property taxes by April 1, 2016 may feel foolish because the collection company tasked with collecting unpaid taxes assesses an additional 10% collection fee for the unpaid amount.

Payments can be made in full online at www.LPSO.net/PayMyTaxes, or mailed to the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office at P.O. Box 5608, Thibodaux, LA 70302.

Homeowners can also make full payments via cash, credit card, debit card, check, or money order can also be made at the LPSO Administrative Office at 200 Canal Blvd. in Thibodaux and at the South Lafourche Sheriff’s Sub-station located at 102 West 91st St. in Galliano. •
