For months, the 2007-08 Leadership Lafourche class has been immersed in learning about the parish’s residents and workers. On May 23, the group will officially graduate from the program.

The public is invited to join the celebration, beginning at 7 p.m., at the Warren J. Harang Jr. Municipal Auditorium’s Plantation Room, 310 North Canal Blvd., in Thibodaux.

The cost per person is $30.

Business attire is required.

Since it’s inception in 1993, Leadership Lafourche has trained and inspired hundreds of participants, many of whom have become community leaders.

Louisiana National Guard Major General Hunt B. Downer, assistant adjutant general, is this year’s guest speaker. Downer served 28 years (seven terms) in the state House of Representatives (1978-2004). He served as speaker pro tempore’ (1988-92) and speaker of the House (1996-2000).

Downer was a six-time “Legislator of the Year,” and was former secretary for Veterans Affairs, State of Louisiana. A Houma native, Downer is a graduate of Nicholls State University in Thibodaux.
