A 15-tract mobile home park in Amelia will soon serve as bunkhouses for Bollinger Shipyards. The living arrangement was approved in late April by the St. Mary Parish Council. The bunkhouses will serve as quarters for the shipyard’s growing immigrant workforce, according to Morgan City Councilman Lou Tamporello, who is project manager at the site. He said the mobile home park is a “serious upgrade” from the housing that once existed in the area. referring to bunkhouses erected in the 1970s that had a reputation as high crime areas.
