Two Bollinger Shipyards Inc. facilities – Bollinger Gretna LLC and Bollinger Marine Fabricators LLC – have signed contracts to build three OPA ’90 compliant tank barges for Bouchard Ocean Services LLC out of Melville, N.Y.

News of the deal to build an 80,000 and two 60,000 barrel-unit barges came at the close of 2007.

“Bollinger is ending the year on a positive note with the recent delivery of several vessels, and we are bringing in 2008 on a great note with the signing of these three units with Bouchard,” said Chris Bollinger, the shipyard company’s executive vice president of new construction.

The 80,000 Bbl tank barge will be built at Bollinger Gretna LLC in Harvey. It is a manned ocean, clean oil barge. Built to comply with the Oil Pollution Act of 1990 (OPA ’90) requirements, the barge will have 12 cargo compartments and three separate pumping systems.

The two other tank barges will be constructed at Bollinger Marine Fabricators LLC in Amelia. Also OPA ’90 compliant, the manned ocean, clean oil barges will have 10 cargo compartments and two separate pumping systems.

“We are pleased to have come to an agreement with Bollinger for the next segment of Bouchard’s double hull program,” said Morton S. Bouchard III, president/CEO of Bouchard Affiliates. “These three barges will be built to the highest standards in the industry that both Bouchard and our customers demand. These three barges will provide our existing and new customers with the safety and efficiency that they demand.”
