State Sen. Jonathon Perry (R-Kaplan), also a Cajun comedian, is scheduled as the keynote speaker for the Thibodaux Chamber of Commerce’s annual banquet on Jan. 19.

Perry has performed his comedy act at Walt Disney World, the Tan-Tar-a Resort in Osage Beach, Mo., and Washington D.C. He is a past king of the International Cajun Joke Telling Contest, according to his website cajuncomedy.com

The chamber is also accepting nominations for three awards it will present at the banquet: the Frank Kennedy Citizen of the Year, the Teenager of the Year and the C. Lindy and Mary Ann Delaune Hoffman Music’s Unsung Hero Award.

The citizen of the year award recognizes an individual’s contributions to the business community, economic development and quality of life in Thibodaux.

The teenager of the year recognizes a high school senior from E.D. White Catholic High School or Thibodaux High who has leadership abilities and academically acceptable achievements to go along with community service, school pride and a commitment to education.

The unsung hero award does not have to be a musician, but must be a “lover of music,” according to the chamber. The winner should also promote music as a volunteer. Instrumental musicians will be given preference but all “venues of music” will be considered.

The nomination forms are available online at www.thibodauxchamber.com/2010/10/29/annual-banquet-to-be-held-january-21-2011/
