The Cardiovascular Institute of the South announced it has signed a participating partner agreement with Humana, giving more options to consumers in Southern Louisiana.

The agreement took effect Oct. 1. Under terms of the agreement, members of Humana’s ChoiceCare Network, with the exception of Humana’s Medicare HMO plan, can now access all heart and vascular medicine programs provided by 40 CIS affiliated doctors and surgeons. This includes access to all CIS’s cardiologists, cardiovascular surgeons and thoracic surgeons in 11 different locations located throughout the southern portion of the state.

CIS offer services by medical professionals trained in nuclear cardiology, electrophysiology, prevention services, and lipid management, as well as interventional cardiovascular procedures and cardiovascular and thoracic surgery.

“As one of the nation’s most respected cardiovascular programs, the Cardiovascular Institute of the South offers a comprehensive range of heart and vascular services that we are proud to offer our members,” said James E. Schlottman, president of Humana Health Benefit Plan of Louisiana.

Schlottman said that the expansion of their participating provider network is vital to Humana’s commitment to provide affordable healthcare packages to employers who are now facing enormous increases in health benefit costs.

CIS has facilities located in Houma, Lafayette, Morgan City, New Iberia, Opelousas, Raceland, Thibodaux, Zachary and Eunice.
