Chamber offers free seminars for small startups

Ever been inside the Nicholls State University mobile classroom?


A series of free seminars to help small businesses get started and to run more efficiently will be held inside the mobile classroom in the parking lot of the Houma-Terrebonne Chamber of Commerce (6133 La. Highway 311).


Sponsored by the U.S. Small Business Administration, the seminars will take place on Monday, June 29, and Tuesday, June 30, beginning at 9 a.m.

The sessions are aimed at small businesspeople but are open to a wider audience, said Jessica Verret with the Houma-Terrebonne Chamber, cosponsor of the event.


Names of the presenters at the sessions were not announced, but a release states that “first class business trainers and consultants will be available to help you make your business more successful with free, intensive, business education seminars.”

Topics on Monday are Starting and Financing a Business, 9 to 11 a.m.; Working with Your Bank to Get a Loan, 11:10 a.m. to noon; Marketing 101, 1 to 2:45 p.m.; Becoming a Moneymaker in a Recession, 3 to 4 p.m.; Customer Service, 4:15 to 5:15 p.m.; and Interviewing Skills for Teens, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

On Tuesday, topics will be Professionalism in the Workplace, 9 to 10 a.m.; E-commerce, 10:15 to 11:15 a.m.; and Marketing on a Shoestring Budget, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Other cosponsors are the South Louisiana Economic Council and LSU College of Business.
