Nickolas Zaunbrecher, CPA, MHA, has been named Cardiovascular Institute of the South’s new chief financial officer.


The Crowley, La., native brings more than 15 years of experience in healthcare administration to the post. He earned a bachelor’s degree in human resource management at Louisiana State University and a master’s degree in healthcare administration at the University of St. Francis in Joliet, Ill.

Zaunbrecher is a licensed certified public accountant.


Before joining CIS, he served as CEO of Meadowbrook Specialty Hospital (formerly Healthsouth Corp.) in Lafayette, La. Prior to assuming his new role, Zaunbrecher held the position of director of operations for CIS.

Zaunbrecher has served as chairman for Louisiana Hospital Association’s (LHA) LTAC Constituency Group, member of LHA’s Legislative, Regulatory and Policy Council and was the president of the Southwest District of LHA in 2006. He serves on the Lafayette Chamber of Commerce Education Outreach Committee and also serves on local community boards such as Junior Achievement and the YMCA. Zaunbrecher was the secretary of the Lafayette Community Healthcare Consortium from 2000 to 2002.

He is a member of the American Institute of CPA’s and the Society of Louisiana Certified Public Accountants since 1993.
