A week after the digital billboards were lit, a Houma company is already starting a waiting list of advertisers wanting to broadcast their messages on Hollywood and Martin Luther King boulevards.

On Feb. 15, one of Houma’s billboard’s went digital as MediaRite, an outdoor advertising company from Raceland, “plugged in” one of the area’s largest digital billboard.

“It’s the first time a advertising company has placed a digital billboard this size in Terrebonne Parish. It is a big step into the future for us at MediaRite,” said MaryBeth Folse-Plair, a MediaRite representative.

Co-owners and founders Mallory Plair and Dirk Matherne work alongside Evan Matherne, the chief of sales for MediaRite, to get this medium out to the public. Plair and Dirk Matherne handle the leasing, construction, properties and other public relations matter for the outdoor ad company.

“We make you look good. It’s what we do. We will finally see fruition of a major team effort,” Folse-Plair said in a release.

There are several contractors involved in the project, including Rodrigue Electric of Thibodaux; ASAP Industries; Duplantis Crane of Houma; Terrebonne Concrete; Computer Sales and Service of Houma; Lafayette Steel Erectors and Advantage Contractors of Baton Rouge.

Just in time for Madri Gras, MediaRite chose Daktronic to supply the billboard, which is 14 feet by 48 feet and features ProStar light emitting diode (LED) digital technology. It also has 23-millimeter pixel center-to-center spacing.

MediaRite and Daktronic have long been committed to the outdoor advertising industry, Folse-Plair said.

A MediaRite representative said the digital billboards offer significant advantages to both MediaRite and its clients. The digital faces will help the outdoor ad company realize its objective to offer clients innovative outdoor products to achieve the advertising goals of any business, according to the owners.

The unprecedented content flexibility available to clients allows them to target specific demographic groups at certain times. For example, a restaurant can use a single billboard to advertise the breakfast options early in the morning and the supper menu when people are commuting home, the owners said.

Folse-Plair said this venue could also be used for personal messages of events, anniversaries, birth announcements and more. In the event of an emergency, it can be commandeered by the Emergency Broadcast System for Amber Alerts or other vital information.

The MediaRite team is excited about its splash into the Houma arena and looks forward to promoting the area’s professional sector, Folse-Plair said.
