Under the new state laws, what constitutes an illegal payment? Nepotism? What transactions are prohibited for government officials?

South Central Planning and Development Commission is hosting a free regional governmental training workshop on Sept. 23 to explore these and other issues included in the recent ethics reform laws adopted statewide. The workshop will be held from 9 a.m. until noon at the SCPDC office, located at 5058 W. Main St. in Houma.

Representatives of the state Board of Ethics, the state Legislative Auditor’s and Attorney General’s offices will be among the guest speakers. Among the topics to be covered are rules surrounding gifts, participation, post employment, financial reporting laws, public bid laws, public record laws and fair housing.

Registration is required by Sept. 16.
