Elton Landry was named the Terrebonne General Medical Center (TGMC) Volunteer of the Year during an awards presentation at the 2007-08 Volunteer Banquet held in celebration of National Volunteer Week.

The Houma native was one of the hospital’s top 10 volunteers in 2007, volunteering over 945 service hours. Overall Landry has volunteered 3,575.30 hours at TGMC.

“Volunteering is something I love to do which is obvious because I do it four days a week. I enjoy volunteering because I know I am helping people out, plus it is keeping me healthy,” said Landry.

Twelve years ago Landry’s wife saw a story in the paper about volunteering and suggested they try it out. He was apprehensive, but they both gave it a shot and twelve years later have much to show for their time and dedication. “I get to meet people daily and have made several new friends through volunteering. I also make it a point to visit my friends that are in the hospital and offer a warm, smiling face,” said Landry.

The volunteer auxiliary donated over 17,000 service hours in the 2007 term. During Volunteer Week, TGMC recognized the warmth and dedication each member of the volunteer auxiliary adds to the TGMC Team.
