South Louisiana is a hotbed for oil and natural gas.

The Louisiana Oil and Gas Association (LOGA) will be talking about the importance of the two industries at a meeting April 1, at the Quality Hotel in Houma.

The meeting will begin at 11 a.m. and is the third in a series of regional events that aim to educate local professionals and business owners about the current state of Louisiana’s oil and gas industries.

LOGA President Don Briggs will be covering issues like the recession and how it has affected the industries and natural gas activity in north Louisiana.

The meeting will also cover President Barack Obama’s administration and its plans concerning the future of energy.

Space is limited to 200 slots. Individual seats are $25, while tables of eight can also be purchased.

Online registration is at www.loga.la. Contact Ben Broussard at (337) 278-6240 or ben@loga.la, or Gifford Briggs at (225) 388-9525 or gifford@loga.la.

Following the meeting, the Houma Chamber of Commerce will be discussing the development and deployment of compressed natural gas, or CNG, in Layfayette, Houma and throughout the state.

There will also be a presentation on what is involved in converting a vehicle or fleet of automobiles to run on CNG, including conversion costs, maintenance and other issues.
