Louisiana’s Sales Tax Holiday kicks off Friday and Saturday.

The two-day holiday allows shoppers to forgo paying the state’s 4 percent tax on most retail purchases, according to the Louisiana Department of Revenue.

The exemption applies to the first $2,500 of the purchase price of most items for non-business use. Products costing more than $2,500 are not included in the sales tax break.

Taxes collected by parishes, towns, school boards and other taxing authorities still apply.

Businesses are allowed for the two-day holiday to reprogram cash registers to comply with the sales tax break. The LDR offers a $25 credit for the service.
