Terrebonne General Medical Center is the Terrebonne/Lafourche area’s lone hospital to earn an “A” grade for patient safety in Leapfrog’s Fall 2015 Hospital Safety Score.

The Hospital Safety Score is the gold standard rating for patient safety – how health care organizations protect patients from errors, injuries, accidents and infections. The Leapfrog Group, a nonprofit organization, administers the ratings program under the guidance of the nation’s leading patient safety experts.

More than 2,500 U.S. general hospitals were assigned scores in October 2015. The Hospital Safety Score is fully transparent, offering a full analysis of the data and methodology used in determining grades online.

“We are proud to achieve this outstanding level of patient safety through this national recognition,” Phyllis Peoples, TGMC president and CEO, said in a release. “Our dedicated physicians, nurses, and staff worked diligently to insure we are providing the safest environment for our patients while providing experienced healthcare.”

In all, 11 Louisiana hospitals received the A grade.

Thibodaux Regional Medical Center received a B grade and Leonard J. Chabert Medical Center earned a C.
