The South Louisiana Economic Council partnered with the Small Business Development Center at Nicholls State University. The partnership sees the relocation of the SBDC offices to the SLEC offices, but also keeps the offices at Nicholls.

“The advantage was for us to step up and say, wait a minute we’d like to keep the center here or at least a presence here as a counseling office to the main office,” said SLEC Executive Director Vic Lafont. “We’re actually, really an appendage of the system. It’s either that or lose it.”

The move consolidates services with a wide variety of business assistance including the Small and Emerging Business Development Program, the Procurement Technical Assistance Program and the Entrepreneur Training Program.

“SLEC and the SBDC are long-time partners in providing direct assistance to small business,” said Lafont. “Bring the two in a shared environment makes our focus on effective service to small business exceptionally strong.”

The SBDC’s new location is at Betsy Cheramie Ayo Hall, room 114.

Former SBDC director Wes Hull announced his retirement with the move of the SBDC to SLEC, but remains directly involved in the counseling of business and in the merging of services between the two organizations.

Susan Arcement is the new program administrator.
