The 2007 Governor’s Conference on Economic Development kicks off today, April 11, at the Baton Rouge Civic Center.


The two-day event will focus on a number of work-related issues. Among the topics to be covered are:

• Workforce: Strategies To Compete In the 21st Century


• Small Business/Entrepreneurship


• Nouveau Financing: New Techniques to Finance Projects

• Marketing Your Community


• Entertainment: the Cultural Economy

• Corporate Site Selection & Industry Trends

Guest speakers at the event include site selection expert Dennis Cuneo, astronaut Leroy Chiao, Ph.D., and Louisiana economist Loren C. Scott, Ph.D. Also at the conference, LSU Chancellor Sean O’Keefe will announce the recipient of the LSU Football sponsorship giveaway presented by Louisiana Economic Development (LED). Other speakers include Gov. Kathleen Babineaux Blanco and LED Secretary Michael J. Olivier.

This event is recognized by the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) as a professional development event that counts toward the recertification of Certified Economic Developers (CEcD). Certified Economic Developers (CEcDs) attending the conference will receive one credit in Level III towards recertification with IEDC.
