A group of Terrebonne Parish deputies played Santa Claus Thursday, during a special visit to a Houma elementary school.

Capt. Dawn Foret and detectives Lt. Tara Whitney, Danielle Lebouef and Henry Dinh gave out toys. Girls received dolls, jewelry, scarves, gift sets and Legos. Boys received Star Wars toys, Lego sets and various remote control toys.

Ivy Garner, a faculty member at Southdown, chose the children.

“We have worked with her before and every year that she has chosen children,” Foret said. “The children were not only happy to see us visit them at their school, but some were shocked that we were giving them gifts.”

The children opened their presents Thursday and gave all the detectives hugs.

“Moments like that make the overwhelming bad situations that we deal with on a daily basis bearable,” Foret said. “We want the kids to know that every time they see police officers, it may not be because of a bad situation. We wanted to make them smile, and I believe we did just that.” •
