Heralding in a new era of Internet access, Vision Communi-cations has announced the launch of the company’s first commercial wireless broadband network, Vision Wireless Internet, now available throughout Port Fourchon.

The majority of the port is now Wi-Fi enabled through Vision, so that anyone traveling or working in the area will be able to send and receive data wirelessly from their Wi-Fi enabled computers, PDA’s, cell phones and other devices, according to company spokeswoman Christie Duet.

Customers already subscribing to Internet service through Vision Communications, Latelco and MobileTel Internet can add unlimited Wi-Fi access to their accounts for $9.99 per month, she said. Daily, weekly and monthly access is also available to anyone with a credit card. These prices range from $4.99 per day to $69.99 per month.

While other companies have built partial networks, Vision is the first to provide access across the entire port, Duet said. The company is reviewing the prospect of deploying other hotspots throughout the community in the coming year.
