Have you seen Suze Orman and Jim Cramer on the tube delivering financial and investment advice?

Bryce Ledet, a financial advisor with Edward Jones, will be dispensing advice of a more personal nature “for anyone looking to increase their knowledge of investing and financial planning” at the Bayouland YMCA at 103 Valhi Blvd. in Houma on Wednesdays, May 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Persons can register through Monday, April 23. The cost of the workshop is $8, which can be paid at the initial class and includes all course material.

“We’re going to start with a general working knowledge of investments,” Ledet said, and cover topics like, “‘How to plan for college,’ ‘When can I retire, and what do I need to retire?’ and ‘How to protect your investments and your savings.’”

He promises that the program will be “an in-depth course.”

“It’s being done for educational purposes,” Ledet said. “There’s nothing in there subjective.”

“I won’t talk about Edward Jones investments,” he said. “I’m not doing a sales pitch.”

Ledet said the workshop will explore five “bulletin points:”

• Reasons for financial and investment planning

• The inherent risk associated with investing

• “Loanership” and ownership investments

• How mutual funds work

• Advantages and disadvantages of deferred investments.

The sessions are available to YMCA members and the general public.

“I worked with the YMCA to put the workshop together,” Ledet said. “It’s a great workshop.”
